Strong Island Field Hockey Tryouts

As we get into August, many of us are getting back into "the mode" aka.. field hockey mode. Soon, beach weather will be gone and autumn will be here before we know it! For us, we have been playing all summer, so our sticks are fully greased and well used. We are preparing for our outdoor season, but before we know it, indoor will be here!

As most of you know, both myself and Coach Thomas coach the Strong Island Indoor Program. Many of the girls, including Caroline Saros, Sam Gray, Taylor Weiss, Wex (Isabelle Wechsler), Kitty (Kaitlin Cassar), Erin Slutter,  Kristina Mazzola and some of our incoming freshmen have been involved with the program. Needless to say, it helps tremendously with your fine skills. This year, tryouts are a lot earlier and we wanted to let you know about the dates.

This year, tryouts are Wednesday August 8, 2012 between 4-8 pm (depending on age group) and Monday August 13, 2012 between 4-8pm. Yes, August 13th does interfere with the outdoor pickup times. But all girls who are serious about getting their skills to a high level should consider Strong Island.

On the webpage there is a link of the strong island website. BUT just in case.. here it is again for all information about tryouts:

If you have any questions, you can ask myself or Coach Thomas.

London Olympics 2012!

The Olympics have been well on its way, beginning with the opening ceremony last Friday night. I personally love watching the men's and women's swimming competitions, gymnastics, and volleyball (beach and regular)... but i also love to watch men's and women's field hockey! Many of us were unaware, but the women's US field hockey team is at the Olympics this year! Their first match was against Germany... which they lost 2-1, but today at 2pm, they are playing Argentina and this is not a match you want to miss! Argentina has been ranked #1 in the world and it is when the US beat Argentina in the Pan Am Games earlier this year that the US got the automatic bid to go into the Olympics!

So if you are home, tune into MSNBC and watch the US as they take on Argentina. If you have to work.. make sure you TiVo  or DVR it!

Aug 24th

                              Hofstra University vs. Fairfield University

Date: Friday, Aug 24, 2012
Time: 3pm
Location: Hofstra Field Hockey Stadium, Hofstra University Hempstead NY

So as many of you have learned, Coach Emily will no longer be coaching at Harborfields. =( It saddens us to see her go but we have very exciting news.... She will be coaching at Fairfield University!! We are beyond excited and thrilled for her and cannot wait to see her succeed on the sideline as a coach!

Whats even more exciting is that Fairfield will be playing at Hofstra University (my alum-mata) to compete again one another! I plan on going to support both my college team and Em... but I wanted to let you girls know about this game. I think it would be a great opportunity for you girls to go and watch some really good hockey. Preseason is Aug 27 (that Monday) and what better way to get mentally ready than seeing a college level game!

Hope to see you all there!

And So it Begins!

Welcome Back Ladies !!

So here we are.. back to preparing for the field hockey season! Can you believe it went by so fast? Hopefully this blog will be a great resource for you ladies to rely upon. Here I will try my best to post up everything regarding games, practices, pick up, articles, etc.

So Yesterday began the first of many Monday night sessions. For those who are in-coming freshmen, we are now holding practices from 5-7 pm on Monday nights at Veteran's Park on Bellerose Ave in E.Northport NY. These practices are not mandatory but they will be beneficial for the upcoming season.

In addition to this blog, Wex has created a facebook page that will include all updates or notices by the coaching staff. Please make sure that you are included in this group.

Again, the following dates for the rest of the summer are

July 9, July 16, July 23, July 30, Aug 6, Aug 13 and Aug 20. (All 5-7pm)

If you cannot make it to the sessions, that is absolutely ok.

NOTE: In case of weather or unexpected notices, please check your emails Monday throughout the day. This is the easiest and quickest way for us to notify you all if we have to cancel a Monday night session.

Hopefully you girls are working on the conditioning program to get into shape. We have a very tough schedule this year and we need to be prepared.

Great job last night girls and keep an eye out for the next email. If you do not get an email, let us know and we will fix that.

Happy 4th everyone!
